Practacular connector for Claude and Grok
Connector version 1.0.0 — 19 September 2026
Draft — pending review. This page is published for review and has not yet been signed off by a legal adviser. The binding version of this document is the one you accept inside the Practacular platform. If the two differ, the in-platform version governs.
Practacular's connector lets Claude, Claude Code and Grok work with your firm's practice data through the Model Context Protocol (MCP): your clients, statutory deadlines, team, firm-brain preferences and audit log, plus a public South African tax calculator and tax-law search that need no account at all.
1. What you need
- •A Practacular firm staff account (admin, manager or staff). Client-portal logins cannot connect an assistant.
- •For Claude: any claude.ai plan can add a custom connector (Free plans are limited to one). On Team and Enterprise plans an organisation owner adds the connector once, then each person connects their own account.
- •For Grok: a paid grok.com plan with Connectors. Business and Enterprise admins provision the connector in the console before members can connect.
- •The two public tools — tax calculator and tax-law search — work before you sign in.
2. Connect in Claude (web, desktop, mobile)
- •Open Customize › Connectors (Team/Enterprise owners: Organization settings › Connectors) and choose Add custom connector.
- •Paste the connector URL: https://practacular-mcp.web.app/mcp. Leave the OAuth client ID and secret blank — Practacular registers Claude automatically.
- •Click Connect. A Practacular sign-in page opens; sign in with your staff email and password, review the permissions, and choose Sign in & allow.
- •In any chat, open the + menu › Connectors and switch Practacular on. Read-only tools run without a confirmation; tools that change data ask first.
3. Connect in Claude Code
Run: claude mcp add --transport http practacular https://practacular-mcp.web.app/mcp — then call any firm tool once; Claude Code opens the same sign-in page in your browser and completes the connection.
4. Connect in Grok
- •Go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, then Custom.
- •Enter the connector URL: https://practacular-mcp.web.app/mcp.
- •Complete the Practacular sign-in and permission screen. Grok discovers the tools automatically and lists Practacular alongside your other connectors.
5. What the assistant can do
Public — no sign-in:
- •Calculate SA income tax (2025/26): individual brackets with optional primary rebate, company at 27%, trust at 45%.
- •Search SA tax law knowledge: cited excerpts from the Income Tax Act, VAT Act, Tax Administration Act, Companies Act, SARS interpretation notes, binding general rulings and leading cases.
Read — your firm only:
- •List firm clients, with status, entity-type and name/reference search.
- •Get client detail: identifiers, contacts, related entities from the entity-link graph, open deadlines.
- •List statutory deadlines (IRP6, ITR12, ITR14, VAT201, EMP201, CIPC annual returns and firm-created items) by client, status or due-date window.
- •List firm team (name, email, role).
- •Get firm-brain preferences — the durable facts your firm has taught Practacular.
- •List the firm's POPIA audit log.
Write — always attributed to you in the audit trail:
- •Record a firm-brain preference (firm-wide or about one client).
- •Mark a deadline complete — the same path the app uses, including scheduling the next occurrence of a recurring statutory deadline.
Example prompts: “Which of my clients have VAT201 returns due before the 25th?” · “Show me everything we know about Seaside Bistro, including who owns it.” · “What does s24C say about future expenditure?” · “Mark the IRP6 for Seaside Bistro as done.”
6. Permissions and scope
- •The connector uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Practacular issues a short-lived access token (1 hour) and a refresh token (30 days, rotated on every use). Tokens are stored hashed; a leaked refresh token that is replayed revokes the whole chain.
- •Every token is bound to one staff member and one firm. The assistant can only see and change what that person's firm can see and change in the app.
- •Read and write permissions are separate. You can grant read-only access; a write tool will then ask you to re-consent before it runs.
- •Client-portal accounts, suspended firms and accounts not yet attached to a firm are refused at the consent screen.
7. Data and privacy
Firm data stays in Practacular's Firestore in Johannesburg (africa-south1). Tool responses are sent to the assistant you connected — Anthropic (Claude) or xAI (Grok) — under that provider's terms, in the same way as anything you paste into a chat. Practacular does not receive your conversation; it receives only the tool calls the assistant makes. The connector service itself runs in Google Cloud us-central1 and stores only OAuth client registrations, one-shot authorization codes and hashed tokens.
The Practacular privacy policy (www.practacular.com/privacy) applies. Questions about personal information go to the Information Officer:

8. Disconnecting and revoking access
- •In Claude: Customize › Connectors › Practacular › Disconnect. In Grok: grok.com/connectors › Practacular › Remove.
- •Changing your Practacular password does not by itself revoke an issued token; disconnect in the assistant, or ask your firm admin to revoke access, and the refresh chain is cut immediately.
- •Firm admins can see every connector action in the audit log (source: mcp-remote).
9. Limits and support
- •The connector is read-mostly by design: it does not create clients, send email, file returns or move money.
- •Rate limit: 120 tool calls per minute per connection.
- •The tax calculator is an estimate for the 2025/26 year of assessment and is not a substitute for a filed computation.
